The details regarding the eligibility for academic qualifications, age limit, nationality, Puducherry residence quota / other state & UT quota, reservation, sponsored seats and part-time seats are included below.

Academic Qualification

Admission is based on the eligible degree qualification. The candidate should have passed all subjects in the qualifying degree at the time of application submission. The Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA) obtained in the qualifying degree from the first semester to the final semester will be considered for merit ranking. For converting the awarded CGPA into equivalent marks, the procedure indicated in the mark sheet by the awarding university will be followed. In the absence of such detail, the procedure laid by PGAC will be followed. In the case of MCA / M.Sc candidates applying for eligible M.Tech programme(s), the CGPA secured in respective MCA / M.Sc degree will be considered. 

The eligible qualifications for each of the Postgraduate programmes offered in the respective institutions are given below: (Applicants are requested to carefully go through the list and ensure that their qualifying degree and specialization is eligible to apply before submitting the application) 

M.Tech (Master of Technology)

M.Tech in Structural Engineering (SE), PTU - Full Time & Part Time  

B.E/B.Tech in Civil Engineering/Civil and Structural Engineering through the regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution (or) an examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Puducherry Technological University as equivalent thereto, with at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) or equivalent CGPA in the degree examinations. 

M.Tech. in Energy Technology (ET), PTU - Full Time & Part Time

M.Tech - Computer Science and Engineering(CSE), (SMVEC)

B.E/B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering/ Information Technology and any other branch equivalent to the above,  through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution   (or) M.Sc. in Computer Science/Information Technology/ Software Engineering (or) MCA through regular course of study with Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Computer Applications / Information Technology or equivalent Mathematics / Statistics / Physics / Electronics / Applied Sciences or an examination of any University or authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA. Candidates belonging to SC/ST who have a mere pass in the qualifying examination are eligible.

M.Tech - Computer Science and Engineering (Big Data Analytics), (SMVEC)

B.E. / B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering / Information Technology/Electronics and Communication Engineering and any other branch equivalent to the above, through the regular course of study from an AICTE approved Institution (or) M.Sc. in Computer Science/ Information Technology/Software Engineering (or) M.C.A. through regular course of study with Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/ Computer Applications/Information Technology (or) Equivalent Mathematics / Statistics / Physics / Electronics / Applied Sciences (or) an examination of any University or authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA.  Master of Computer Applications (MCA), PTU

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications / Computer Science/Information Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Commerce / Corporate Secretary-ship / Economics/ Business Administration with Mathematics / Business Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications as one of the subjects (or) Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Mathematics/Statistics as one of the subjects with a minimum of 50% marks. (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category)

Master of Computer Applications (MCA), SMVEC

Candidates for admission to the first semester of MCA Degree programme shall be required to have Passed Bachelor of Computer Application / Bachelor Degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent Degree / B.Sc. / B.Com./ B.A. with Mathematics at 10+2 Level or at Graduation Level (with additional bridge Courses as per the norms of the Concerned University), obtained with at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying Examination are eligible.

Master of Computer Applications (MCA), MVIT, CCET, RGCET, PJPCE

Candidates who have secured 50% of marks(45% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category or above in any one of the following or equivalent, are eligible to apply: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Information Technology / Computer Applications / Commerce / Corporate Secretary-ship / Economics / Business Administration (with Mathematics / Business Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications as one of the subjects)  OR  Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Mathematics / Statistics as one of the subjects.

M.Sc. in Material Science & Technology , PTU

Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as the main subject and Chemistry and Mathematics as ancillaries. (or) Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Chemistry as main subject and Physics and Mathematics as ancillaries. (or) Bachelor’s Degree in Science - Applied Science. (or) Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as major subjects (or)  B.Sc. Electronics with Physics & Mathematics as ancillaries (or) B.Sc. Ceramics Technology  (or) B.Sc. Polymer Technology (or) Any degree of equivalence like STEM (degree in Physical Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with a minimum of 55% marks (a mere pass in the qualifying examination, in case of candidates belonging to reserved category)  in major (Part-III) and minor (Part-II) subjects or equivalent CGPA.

Master of Business Administration (MBA), SMVEC, MVIT, RGCET, CCET, CIT, SVCET

Passed Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years duration through the regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution  (or) an examination of any University or Authority approved by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) or equivalent CGPA in the degree examination.

Nationality

A Candidate seeking admission through PGAC should be an Indian National. However, French Nationals residing in the UT of Puducherry, and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par with Indian Nationals, for the purpose of admission to all the courses.

AGE LIMIT

There is no age limit for M.Tech., MCA, M.Sc., and MBA Programmes.

RESIDENCE CRITERIA FOR PUDUCHERRY UNION TERRITORY

A candidate is considered to be a Puducherry resident if he/she is an Indian National and satisfies at least one of the following domicile criteria (Refer Annexure – I for the Format of Certificate):

i)  Those candidates or whose parent (either mother or father or both) or Guardian (in the case of children who have lost both the parents) has been residing continuously in this Union territory for at least five years, immediately preceding to the last date of application. Candidates must furnish digitally verified residence certificate issued by the Department of Revenue & Disaster Management, Puducherry.

ii) Those who have passed the Degree Examination and for that purpose had undergone academic studies continuously for 5 successive years immediately preceding the qualifying examination (including the year of the qualifying examination) in recognized education institutions (s) located in the U.T. of Puducherry and having their residence in the U.T. of Puducherry for 5 years continuously during that period. Mere stay in places such as residential hostel would not amount to residence.

iii) Children whose parents are Central Government Employees, State Government Employees, Defence Personnel, Central Paramilitary Forces, Employees of Public Sector Undertakings wholly or substantially run either by the Central Government or by the U.T. of Puducherry, posted and serving in the U.T. of Puducherry for at least a minimum continuous period of three years, immediately prior to the last date of submission of application.

iv)  Children of Defence Personnel who were killed or disabled in action and who have declared Puducherry as their hometown.

v)  French Nationals residing in the U.T. of Puducherry who are covered by the terms of the “Treaty of Cession” shall be treated on a par with the candidates, provided they produce the prescribed residence certificate issued by the U.T. of Puducherry. Such French Nationals will be required to produce the residence certificate issued by the Department of Revenue Disaster Management, Puducherry, not below the rank of Deputy Tahsildar. In addition they should produce a certificate of registration issued for this purpose from the French consulate, Puducherry.

Note: Children of these French Nationals shall not be considered for admission under the quota of non-residents.

     Candidates of Other States and Other UTs

A candidate belonging to Other States and Other UTs, must enclose the self-attested copy of Nationality, Nativity and Community obtained from the competent authority.
